Seasons Change at just the Right Time

Mitzi is our hunter, snuggler cat who was born in our closet four and a half years ago. Her nickname is Murderbritches because her favorite past time is to hunt and deposit her trophies to us. It seems she knows just where to place her partial carcasses so we will step on them as soon as we open the door. When she was a little, she was not interested in snuggling. Her favorite place to be now that she is older is right where Ronnie B and I are. We are careful to always make sure she has fresh food and water but her favorite water source is our fishbowl. We wonder if it makes Topey that fish nervous when she drops by for a drink.

It occurs to us how much Mitzi’s personality has changed since she was a tiny kitten. She seems more

content with just laying on the bed rather than tormenting the gophers in the yard. Even our feline friends go through seasons in life. With Natalie and Nate moving to the northwest our life is slowing down. We won’t have action packed days with Felix who is almost four or days sitting with Auggie in our arms while he takes a newborn nap. The house is quieter, there is less need for toys and extra outfits just in case.  Luckily, we have our grandgirl, Elissa, and her sixteen month old Caleb to keep diapers, wipes and a high chair around.

There have been seasons in our lives where we were home all the time raising kids, coaching and being team mom and then life slowed as the kids went out to create their own lives. When Ron and I retired we found other ways to fill our days and trips became a huge part of our adventures. Last November, we were gone for a month visiting family and friends in our rv. Ron is getting ready to go on an archeology adventure to the Yucatán in a couple weeks but I am staying put. It has been awhile since I have been home for four months at a time. Our next camping excursion will be in April when we head to Texas for the eclipse then go to San Padre Islands with Mike and Deb.

This life of less busy makes us as content as it does our Mitzi cat. But just like her we both love to venture out and get a bit rambunctious at times. Besides we are grateful that she chooses to be outside some so we have no need for a litter box and less gopher holes in the yard. It doesn’t get past us that we are blessed to not only have one another but the ability to get out and go when we are ready. Here is to a 2024 full of adventures for Ronnie B and me along with our quiet kitty. Now our trips include our young dog who is always up for a ride to the hardware store or a month long trip of camping. D
